Did you know the Bible speaks of two individuals called Jesus, and, no, I am not speaking of Joshua the son of Nun for whom the Old Testament Book of Joshua is named. I am speaking of a second Jesus mentioned in the New Testament. Are you surprised? Notice these words of the apostle Paul as recorded in the 11th chapter of 2nd Corinthians: “Would to God you could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me” (verse 1). Paul says he is about to write something that might appear at first to be utter foolishness, but he asks the Corinthian believers to bear with him and hear him out. He then writes: “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy, for I have espoused (promised) you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste (pure) virgin to Christ. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent (Satan) beguiled (or deceived) Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that comes (speaking of the deceivers that would rise up after Paul’s departure) preaches ANOTHER JESUS, whom we have not preached, or if you receive ANOTHER SPIRIT, which you have not received, or ANOTHER GOSPEL, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him” (verses 2 through 4).
Paul was not an alarmist, nor was he a false accuser. When he said there would be those who would arise amid the Christian assemblies who would preach and present “another Jesus,” he knew what he was talking about. When he told the Corinthian assembly they might well tolerate and accept such preaching, he knew what he was talking about then, too, for he well knew the Corinthians – far better than they knew themselves.
Also note that Paul warned “another spirit” would be received – a clever counterfeit of the real Holy Spirit sent forth from God by His exalted Son Jesus Christ, and that “another gospel” message would be preached and accepted by those to whom it was spoken and presented! Many today have been duped by Satan into worshiping that “other” Jesus, wholeheartedly believing they are indeed worshiping the true Lord Jesus Christ. They have been deceived into accepting and believing a false gospel and have also received another spirit! Millions have been so deceived!
Paul goes on to write in this 11th chapter of 2nd Corinthians, that there are “false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ, and no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if HIS MINISTERS also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works” (verses 13 through 15). Paul then goes on to say again, “Let no man think me a fool” as he knows some in the Corinthian assembly would think such an idea preposterous. (See verse 16). How could there be another Jesus, another gospel, another spirit with false apostles, men transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ and masquerading as ministers of righteousness? What a fantastic claim some would think. Paul then goes on in verse 26 of 2nd Corinthians 11 to speak of “false brethren.” Satan duplicating everything – another Jesus, another gospel, another spirit with false apostles and a church filled with false brethren! What a fantastic idea! Yes, an idea and a work of Satan himself. And Satan is good at what he does – a master craftsman. Satan’s counterfeits bear a startling resemblance to the true and genuine.
The first characteristic the Bible gives us regarding Satan’s character is that he is subtle – “Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field” (Genesis 3:1). Someone who is subtle moves in such a manner as to be extremely difficult to detect. Satan employs super-human cunning in his efforts to deceive mankind. And he does not limit his field of operation to simply propagating other religions, such as Hinduism, Taoism or Islam. As just stated, your Bible warns that Satan presents to the world “another Jesus,” and sends forth false ministers who preach “another gospel” and that he also sends forth “another spirit” that unsuspecting, scripturally ignorant men and women accept and receive, believing they have received God’s Holy Spirit! (Again see 2 Corinthians 11:3-4). Of course these false ministers, being deceived themselves, actually believe themselves to be true ordained ministers of Jesus Christ. It was of these types Jesus spoke and warned about when He said, “Many (note well, not a few, not a handful, but MANY) will say to me in that day (of His coming kingdom), ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied (preached, taught) in your name (by your authority, called by you to preach), and in your name have cast out devils (some even having a “deliverance” ministry), and in your name done many wonderful works (established food banks, sent out and supported missionaries, etc.)?’ And then will I profess unto them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you that work iniquity.’” (See Matthew 7:22-23).
It was “another Jesus” they served. It was “another gospel” they proclaimed. It was “another spirit” they had received, thinking God had given them His powerful HOLY Spirit! Yet Jesus had plainly and clearly stated that “when He the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into ALL truth….and He will show you things to come” (See John 16:13). And Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth” (See John 17:17). God’s Holy Spirit of truth guide’s the Lord’s truly called and ordained spokesmen of God into a deep understanding of ALL the truth of God – ALL the Bible, and shows them “things to come,” that is opens up Bible prophecy to their understanding and comprehension. They can as easily expound the writings of Zechariah or Ezekiel as the writings of Peter or Paul. The deceived false ministers of that “other Jesus” have no comprehension of the prophets, spurning their writings and crowing “we don’t get our doctrine out of the Old Testament.”
Of course a deceived individual doesn’t realize he is deceived. He is absolutely certain he is a true representative of Jesus Christ. That’s why when seeing Jesus Christ in person they will argue that they preached by His authority and had a ministry of His calling and anointing! (See Matthew 7:22-23 once again). They are without a clue that Satan has deceived them into following his counterfeit Jesus.
This is part of the “mystery of lawlessness” spoken of by Paul in 2 Thessalonians, chapter 2. To most, it is indeed a great mystery that men and women could “preach Jesus” and yet that Jesus they preach be a counterfeit Jesus and they themselves unwittingly serving Satan as his ministers! How many believers today have accepted that “other Jesus.” How many have received “another spirit,” a spirit that is completely incapable of bringing them into true, lasting holiness, empowering them to say “NO!” to the pulls of the flesh and attractions of this present evil world??!! How many are believing “another gospel,” a message that is not “good news” at all but a clever counterfeit message presented by the craftiness of Satan himself?!
The REAL Jesus of your Bible lays down absolutely rigid, unchangeable CONDITIONS for all who would be His followers – especially His ministers. “And there went out great multitudes with Him, and He turned, and said unto them, ‘If ANY man come to me, and hate not (love far, far less) his father, and mother, AND WIFE, and children, and brethren and sisters, yea, AND HIS OWN LIFE ALSO, he cannot be my disciple. And WHOSOEVER does not bear his cross (putting self to death daily), and come after me, cannot be my disciple’” (See Luke 14:25-27). And, in His very next breath, the REAL JESUS cautioned His listeners to “COUNT THE COST!” (verse 28). He then warned against laying the foundation, engaging in warfare with the flesh, the world and Satan, and then having insufficient commitment and understanding to finish the race. (See verses 29 thru 32). “So likewise, WHOSOEVER he be of you that forsakes not ALL that he has, he cannot be my disciple” (verse 33). Jesus then sums up this short, startling discourse with the words: “He that has ears to hear, let him hear” (verse 35).
Jesus knew you cannot force-feed spiritual truth and that only those hungering and thirsting after righteousness would comprehend what He was saying. Are YOU in that category? Are YOU hungering and thirsting for righteousness, or are you a follower of that “other” Jesus who assures you that all He asks from you is that you believe He died for you. There’s no “cost” to count. There’s no cross to bear. He bore it for you. Don’t be bothered about sin in your life. It’s the human condition. It’s all under the blood. That, friend, is the teaching of that “other” Jesus!
Remember, the REAL Jesus warned, “strait (difficult) is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and FEW there be that find it” (See Matthew 7:14). The Mormons believe they have found it. The Roman Catholics believe they have found it. Dozens and dozens of differing, bickering, deceived denominations believe they have found it. And, of course, YOU believe you have found it. Reader, I urge you to think on these things, for it IS possible you have not found the narrow way to the REAL Jesus yourself!
