The Door To Truth

Our Lord has immensely blessed me with understanding of the scriptures.  Perfect understanding??  No!  But marvelous understanding regarding foundational, basic truth of the doctrines of the early church.  He had to first sweep my mind clean from all the errors I had long ago inherited from merely accepting what various preachers had said and taught.  I, too, was of that number who ask, “How can all these people be wrong?”  To accomplish this tremendous feat, God had to first place within me a ravenous appetite for reading and pondering the Word of God.  I was given nothing short of the appetite of a starving giant.  I could not read God’s Word enough!  Five times, ten times, twenty times I read ALL the Word of God from cover to cover, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21.  Thirty times, forty times, fifty times, AND MORE!

Simultaneously God placed within my mind the capacity to doubt!  Yes, doubt.  I began to question the affirmations of various well known and highly respected ministers, preachers and  theologians.  I realized that they often contradicted one another while they all proclaimed they obtained their beliefs solely from the Word of God and that they were “called” to preach.  Yet one preached “once saved, always saved,” while another dogmatically proclaimed one can most certainly lose or forfeit their salvation!  I knew both could not be right as these doctrines were polar opposites.  Somebody had to be wrong – gravely and seriously wrong!

Of course, I learned long ago that most preachers are “locked in” to their present beliefs.  A Baptist preacher lives and dies a Baptist preacher.  A Lutheran minister lives and dies a Lutheran minister.  A Roman Catholic priest – well, you can finish the sentence.  One with a mind capable of incisive logic and thinking power realizes one truth immediately: Most preachers do not really PROVE the doctrines they teach and spread to others.  If they did, you would often find preachers abandoning one denomination for another one as they discover their error and discern some other denomination has more truth than their own.

God answered my prayer some years ago for the capacity to have good judgment and the power to think more deeply.  That’s when and WHY I abandoned the path of selfish pursuits and utterly sinful living for the path of faith and righteous conduct.

It is only human to believe you are correct and scriptural in all you believe and practice, but remember the Jehovah’s Witness across the street thinks and reasons in the same fashion.  So does the Mormon next door.  God have mercy on all those who fail to study the Word of God intensely and really and truly PROVE the scripturalness of their doctrines and beliefs.  There are going to be a lot of stunned preachers at the judgment – a lot!!!

After telling me WHAT you believe, tell me WHY you believe it.  That is where most encounter a problem.  They can glibly tell you WHAT they believe, but they can’t tell you WHY they believe it other than replying, “Well, the Bible says so,” or “That’s what the Bible teaches.”  Press them further for chapter and verse, and they can give you a verse here and a verse there that does seemingly support their belief or the doctrine they are sure has ample scripture support.  But introduce into the investigation other chapters and verses that tend to show more light and a different slant on the topic at hand.  The one with the opposing view will usually dismiss the text that reveals he, or she, may be holding to doctrinal error, or they will quote a text to knock down and nullify the text you just quoted to them, thereby pitting scripture against scripture, apostle against prophet, or an apostle against the Lord He represented.

Don’t lose heart, folks.  The truth CAN be known and understood.  But the door to truth is locked and the key to that door is total surrender and absolute obedience to Jesus Christ.  Apart from that you will enter the door of confusion.  Oh, you will find a lot of company inside that door – a lot.  One will say one thing while someone else will say the very opposite, yet all the while proclaiming what they say and believe is the truth.  And, yes, they will all have some truth – but a lot of error, too.

May God grant you the heart and mind, and, yes, the courage to search for the truth in the only way possible – full surrender and continued abject obedience to Jesus Christ for you see HE is the Door!

Barack Hussein Obama

Barack Hussein Obama is no fool.  He knew quite well his constant wearing of a ring bearing the inscription of the shahada (the Muslim statement of belief) would eventually be public knowledge.  Yet he chose to continue to wear the ring.  After all it looked much like nothing more than a wedding band.  He knew his very name belied his beliefs and background.  He knew his refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin for years would cause some to wonder.  He knew his birthplace would be called into question early on.  He knows the Islamic mindset far better than we do.  His father was an open Muslim.  He attended a Muslim school as a boy.  He knew using floodlights to color the White House with the gay rights colors immediately after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled all states must honor same-sex marriages would but inflame Islamic radicals around the world.

I have no doubt any longer that it is his intention to bring this country down, if at all possible, while still in office.  He is no friend of Christianity.  He can sing “Amazing Grace” until his face turns blue.  That was a politician expert at his craft singing those words.  We have the worst person possible in the White House (this article was originally written in June of 2016) for the times in which we live.  He knows his time is short.  You can believe he will use the next few months to further the cause of Islam as much as possible before departing the scene.  Be warned.

The Scriptures CAN Be Understood!

I believe I have touched on this subject before – the “KEY” to understanding the scriptures.   It was revealed to me many years ago that scripture revelation and obedience are conjoined (or Siamese) twins.  But they are conjoined twins that cannot be separated.  In order to have scripture truth revealed to one’s mind that searcher of the scriptures must OBEY what God reveals to their mind.  The FIRST truths God reveals to the searcher are His moral precepts and commands – NOT the deep, secret things of prophecy.  As one brings their life into adherence to God’s moral laws and judgments, and as he, or she, begins to continue to study God’s Word, searching for the truth, THEN God’s Spirit leads and guides in granting that human mind greater and greater understanding in the Word of God.

To the liar, God says, “Stop lying and I will grant you more truth.”  In Daniel 9:13, the prophet speaks of how one must turn from their iniquities in order to understand God’s truth.  God does not grant understanding to rebels, and when we continue knowingly in sin, going our own way, breaking God’s commandments, then we are nothing more or less than rebels against God and His way of life.

God’s truths often run counter to human understanding and human, or fleshly, desires.  Therefore, those human beings not fully surrendered to God and His way find His truth unacceptable to their way of thinking.  They then hold on to their error much like a dog will hold on to a towel, or piece of cloth of some kind, as you try to pull it from its mouth.  Someone who has not read the Bible from start to finish even one time will then think they comprehend the scriptures far better than someone who has read the Bible from start to finish fifty or sixty times or more!  And how does one reason with that type of thinking???!!!  It would be similar to my thinking I understand the V8 engine as well, if not better, than a General Motors design engineer whose job is to perfect the V8 engine!

Many of the youthful pastors that I write have this mindset.  Granted the title “Reverend” by their peers a few years previously upon finishing seminary and going before an “ordination council” of a handful of like-minded preachers, they look down their noses at someone they see as lacking such approval.  Then WHY do I keep sending articles out to such personalities?  Because I do not know just who might have an open mind, who just might be prompted to think a bit more deeply.  And, from time to time, someone says, “I thank God for you, Don Wiley.”

Jesus Christ’s Apostles Agreed With Him

Would it surprise you to learn that Jesus Christ’s apostles never once contradicted Him in their doctrinal stand and teachings, that they all spoke with one voice and saw clearly eye-to-eye in all matters of faith and truth?  One might quickly reply, “Well, that goes without saying.  Of course all the apostles fully agreed with all that Jesus Christ said and taught.”  And, of course, that is true.  They did fully agree with everything Jesus Christ taught as divine truth.  But would it surprise you to learn that many “Christian” ministers and preachers today contradict Jesus Christ in their teaching and spiritual instruction?
I give you a prime example of where many ministers and preachers flatly contradict something Jesus Christ taught as eternal divine truth: “And, behold, one came and said unto Him ‘Good Master, what good thing shall I do that i may have eternal life?’  And He said unto him….’If thou wilt enter into life KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS'” (See Matthew 19:16-17).  Surely no apostle would agree with that statement, would they?  Jesus Christ must have been way off base with that remark.  After all, isn’t that working for one’s salvation?  And salvation isn’t of works, is it?  Isn’t that what the apostle Paul plainly declared in his letter to the Ephesians?
Most of the confusion in this matter enters in when one misunderstands NOT what Jesus said, but what Paul wrote.  Remember, Peter warned that Paul wrote some things not easily understood by the spiritually unstable and by those who were ignorant of the scriptures.  (See 2 Peter 3:15-16).  Here is the statement of Paul many misunderstand: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast” (See Ephesians 2:8-9).  Now here is what many mistakenly THINK Paul said: “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; NOT OF OBEDIENCE, lest any man should boast.”
The “works” to which Paul refers is not obedience to God’s holy, eternal commandments, but fleshly works such as keeping the Jewish laws and customs, such as circumcision, animal sacrifices, and the like.  In this same letter to the Ephesians, Paul urges the keeping of the fifth commandment “Honor thy father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise” (See Ephesians 6:2.  And in the previous chapter (chapter 5), Paul had written “But fornication (violation of the seventh commandment)…or covetousness (violation of the tenth) commandment, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints” (verse 3, chapter 5).  In other words, don’t break either of these commandments, not even once, at any time!  “For this ye know that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolator (a violation of the first and second commandments), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God” (verse 5, chapter 5).  Or, in other words again, one must keep God’s commandments in order to receive the gift of eternal life.
So what is Paul clearly saying?  He is saying that one must KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS in order to have any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God, the major part of that inheritance being the inheritance of eternal life.  Paul shows himself to be in total agreement with Jesus Christ’s statement to the one who asked Him “what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”
“For by grace are you saved through faith….”  Faith in what, in whom?  Faith in Jesus Christ, believing what Jesus said and taught and acting upon that belief, not merely believing He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins.
To the believers in Galatia, Paul wrote: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness (lewdness), idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (contentions, quarreling), emulations (stirring up envy or jealously in others), wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkeness, revellings, and such like, of the which I  tell you before, and I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things (and notice how many are the breaking of the Ten Commandments), SHALL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD” (See Galatians 5:19-21).
Paul states plainly and clearly, break these commandments and you will not inherit the kingdom of God, that is, we must keep God’s commandments in order to be granted the gift of eternal life.  Some will argue, “Well, if one must DO something in order to be granted eternal life, then it is not really a gift!”  Well, friend, some gifts do require the recipient to DO something in order to obtain the gift.  One must accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to obtain the gift of eternal life.  One must believe Jesus died for our sins in order to obtain the gift of eternal life.  Where does one get the erroneous idea that a gift cannot require the recipient to do something?  God GAVE ancient Israel the Promised Land, but they had to DO something to obtain that gift.  (Read Deuteronomy Chapter One).
One must OBEY Jesus Christ in order to obtain the GIFT of eternal life.  “And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Ghost (Spirit), whom God has given TO THEM THAT OBEY HIM” (Acts 5:32).  One MUST have God’s Holy Spirit in order to inherit eternal life and God’s Spirit is given ONLY to those who obey Him, for without and apart from having God’s Holy Spirit one cannot possibly obey both the spirit and the letter of the law.
And, of course some will now argue, “But we are not under the law,” ignorant of what the apostle Paul meant when he employed that
phrase in his letters to the believers in Rome and Galatia.  When using that phrase in the letter to the Romans, Paul means believers are not under THE PENALTY of the law since Jesus Christ has died in our place, taking the penalty upon Himself.  When using that phrase in the letter to the believers at Galatia, Paul means we are not obligated to keep the Mosaic customs of circumcision, animal sacrifices, and the like.  To be continued….

Questions Concerning Islam

A QUESTION:  Would Islamic countries welcome millions of Christians, supplying the same with housing, clothing, food, and a monthly government stipend?

A QUESTION:  Is it reasonable to believe Muslim refugees entering the United States will eventually forsake Islam and become Christians?

A FACT:  Not taking in Syrian refugees and closing our borders isn’t “mean” and “heartless.”  I lock the doors to my house every night.  I don’t lock them because I hate the people outside.  I lock them because I love the people inside.

A FACT:  Five of the wealthiest Muslim countries have taken no Syrian refugees in at all, arguing that doing so would open them to the risk of terrorism.  (Their leaders and citizens are obviously more intelligent than ours).

A FACT:  While our children are being taught to tolerate, even love, the Muslim children.  Muslim children are being taught to hate and trained to kill our children!

A FACT:  Decorated United States Armed Forces veterans receive $1200 per month from the U.S. Government while Muslim refugees are given $1700 per month.

A FACT:  The United States government has the resources to relocate and resettle millions of Muslim refugees, but not enough money to supply our senior citizens with a cost of living increase!

A FACT:  It takes a special kind of lunatic to think that importing thousands of welfare recipients who want to kill us is a good idea.

A FACT:  Only one percent of Muslims are terrorists.  Islam has 1.57 billion adherents.  Do the math: one percent of 1.57 billion is 15.7 million terrorists!

A QUESTION:  Some argue that not all Muslims are heartless killers.  If you had a bowl of M&M’s and only one percent were tainted with a deadly poison, would you eat a handful of them????

The Beautiful Face of Death

I refer to the beautiful face of death in light of the revelation given us about death in the scriptures, especially in the 15th chapter of I Corinthians.  While death is called an “enemy” in that chapter, it is shown to be such only in regard to its taking from our midst family and friends.  To the one who dies in fellowship with Jesus Christ, death is the gateway to eternal life, immortality, and an existence indescribable in its awesomeness, its wonders and its never-ending joys and triumphs.  Death is said to be swallowed up in victory by our resurrection to incorruptible immortality in the closing verses of that chapter.  With no conscious awareness of passing time in death, the moment we breathe our last is the exact same moment we are resurrected in spirit bodies far more real and beautiful than any human body.  Scripture says we shall be like Him, our Lord, our bodies shining and radiant as the sun.  It says that we shall then ever be with the Lord, eternal members of the great universe ruling family of God.  So, I stand by my statement that death has a beautiful face and ask with Paul, “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?”  The sting of death is sin and when our sins are removed from us as far as the east is from the west death then loses its sting.  The grave is no longer victorious over us for that small cell has its door flung wide open when our Master cries, “Come forth!” as He did with His friend Lazarus so long ago.  The Lord that heals me of all my ailments will heal me of even that final illness that stops my heart when at the time of resurrection He gives the command, “Live,” and I shall come alive in a form more awesome than human mind can imagine.

Since there is no conscious awareness in death, it doesn’t matter if ten billion years elapse before you are resurrected back to life.  As far as your ability to know, to be aware, to realize anything is concerned as soon as you breathe out your last breath you are changed from mortal to immortal.  Again, a great deal of time might pass between the moment your heart stops beating and you are resurrected in a marvelous spirit body, but, as far as you are concerned, as much as you can discern or perceive, your heart stops and in the next instant of awareness you live again regardless of how much time passes.  If the resurrection occurs in the year 2045, those who died in 1765, or 1544, or 1924 will feel as though it is still the year, the month, the day on which they died!!!!

The Devil’s Religion

The more I study about Islam and ISIS, the more thoroughly convinced I become that this gutter religion was the brain child of Satan himself.  Had Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini and Joseph Stalin had a round table discussion, putting their minds together and trying their best to devise the most disgusting, sordid, satanic religion they could create they could not have come up with anything more ungodly than Islam.  Mein Kampf cannot hold a candle to the Koran in its teachings to rid the planet of none but the most evil.  It is through the religion of Islam that Satan is going to do his worst to God’s creation.  And, sad as it may seem, we haven’t even begun to see the worst of Islam.  The bloodletting in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon is but the tiniest tip of an iceberg larger than most countries of earth.   I am supremely happy that I am a member of a generation that will not witness or suffer the worst Islam will deliver to this planet, including all the nations thereof.

Those who are urging the acceptance of more and more Muslims into the United States are profoundly ignorant of what a devout Muslim believes and accepts as utter truth.  If these blind “do-gooders” would spend a few dollars and buy a Quran (Koran), and then read what that gutter religion teaches as divine truth they might have a change of heart.  Those bleeding heart Hollywood actors and actresses who weep for the plight of the poor Muslims need to have a devout radicalized Muslim move in to the house next door to them.  Ellen Degeneres sure wouldn’t want a devout Muslim moving in next door to her and her wife.  And, on Oscar night, when those scantily clad actresses come out of their mansions to go parade in front of the cameras on the red carpet, they wouldn’t want a radicalized devout Muslim living next door to them.  That red carpet would be redder still with their blood!  To be continued….

Do We Have To Sin?

John says he writes this letter of I John “that you sin NOT” (See I John 2:1).  And goes on to say, “Whosoever abides in Him sins NOT” (See I John 3:6).  This does not mean a believer cannot, or will not sin.  It means a believer need not sin.  The apostle Paul presents this magnificent hope in I Corinthians 10:13 when he dogmatically affirms: “There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to man.  But God is faithful, who will not suffer (permit) you to be tempted above that (which) you are able (to bear), but will with the temptation (at that exact moment in time, simultaneously) also make a way to escape (a GOD-made way of escape, hence a PERFECT way of escape) that you may be able to bear it (bear up under the temptation without sinning).”  Paul agrees with John that a believer need not sin.
Then why is Paul, of all people, used as an example to prove that a believer cannot be completely delivered from committing sin in this life?  Again, as with John, it is due to a misunderstanding of what Paul wrote in Romans 7.  In the 7th chapter of Romans, beginning with verse 14, Paul wrote these words: “I am carnal, SOLD UNDER SIN, for that which I do, I allow not: for what I would (or should do) that do I not; but what I hate, that do I….Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me.  For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing, for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I FIND NOT” (See Romans 7:14-18).
Now do you really think this apostle is saying he doesn’t know how to get the victory over sin, because right before penning those words Paul had urged these Roman believers, “Reckon you also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin?”  (See Romans 6:11).  And again, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts thereof” (verse 12).  He had just assured them, “Sin shall not have dominion over you” (verse 14).  Does he then turn right around and confess that in his own life he found none of this to be true?  How absurd to even think so!
The KEY to a proper understanding of Paul’s clearly defeatist statements in Romans 7 is what Paul says in the 19th verse of Romans 6: “I speak after the manner of men (spiritually defeated men at that) because of the infirmity (weakness) of YOUR flesh.”  Notice, Paul is not speaking of any weakness in his own flesh, but of the weakness of these Roman believers.  Previously Paul had written the believers at Corinth, “I keep under (control) my body, and bring it into subjection (to the Spirit, thus to Jesus Christ and God’s Word)…”  (See I Corinthians 9:27).  Paul hadn’t lost the victory between the time he wrote the Corinthians and the Roman believers.  In writing, “I speak after the manner of men,” Paul was merely saying, “I am going to put myself in your shoes and address this problem from your viewpoint, your perspective, and show you the way to victory – Jesus Christ!
Putting himself in the place of another in order to address THEIR problem was a tactic used by Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians.  (See I Corinthians 4:6).  It’s the tactic he uses in Romans 7.  Don’t be thrown by his use of the personal pronoun “I”.
Approximately six years before writing the Romans, Paul wrote the Thessalonian believers, “You are witnesses, and God also (God Himself will attest to the truthfulness of what Paul is about to write), how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe” (I Thessalonians 2:10).  Did Paul, and his companions, live holy, just and blameless lives among the Thessalonians while being carnal and sold under sin among the Romans?  Of course not!
Paul told the Galatian believers it pleased God to reveal His Son to them through Paul.  (See Galatians 1:15-16).  Paul exhorted the Corinthians, “Be ye followers of me even as I also am of Christ” (See I Corinthians 11:1).  Also, in his defense to the believers in Galatia, Paul declared dogmatically, “Christ LIVES IN ME!” (See Galatians 2:20).
How could Paul seriously and without hypocrisy exhort the Philippian believers to be “blameless, and harmless, and without rebuke” if he, himself, was ever giving in to the pulls of the flesh? (See Philippians 2:15)
Paul wrote the Corinthians, “I know of nothing against myself” (See I Corinthians 4:4), or, as the New International Version words it, “My conscience is clear.”  Paul knew of NO SIN in his life.  In fact, he wrote that “a bishop (a pastor) must be BLAMELESS, JUST, HOLY” (See Titus 1:7-8).  He wrote similar words to Timothy.  (See I Timothy 3:1-7).  Are we to believe that Paul admitted to the Roman believers that he did not fit these qualifications himself?
Paul exhorted the Thessalonian believers, and by extension you and me, “Abstain from all appearance of evil.  And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly (utterly, completely, through-and-through), and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body (the total YOU) be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Faithful is He who calls you (to this continuous walk of holiness), who also WILL DO IT” (See I Thessalonians 5:22-24).
How could Paul be so sure the Living Lord Jesus Christ would bring these believers to such a continued walk of holiness?  He had done it for Paul, THAT’S WHY!  Let Him do it for you, friend.
